Edge Protection for Golf Simulator Screens

Most golf simulator screens don't cover the entire wall. That leaves gaps — between the screen and the walls, ceiling, or frame — where golf balls can slip behind the screen. Edge protection closes those gaps and keeps stray shots contained.

Quick summary

  • Edge Guard — A 9" wide polyester/nylon fabric flap. Attaches to the screen on one end and the wall on the other, bridging the gap at a 45-degree angle.
  • Edge Carpet — A 1/2" thick carpet material. Attaches flush to the screen for a cleaner finish with less bounce.
  • Both options attach via velcro and require the Vinyl with Grommets + Velcro finishing option on your screen.

The gap problem

When an impact screen is mounted on a frame or hung from a ceiling, there is typically a gap between the edges of the screen and the surrounding walls or ceiling. These gaps are a natural result of how screens are installed — the screen needs clearance for deflection and tensioning.

The problem is that golf balls can find their way through these gaps. A ball that slips behind the screen can hit the back wall, damage equipment, or become difficult to retrieve. Edge protection solves this by covering the gaps around the perimeter of the screen.

Edge Guard

What it is

The Edge Guard is a 9-inch wide strip of polyester/nylon fabric. It has velcro on both ends — one end attaches to the screen, and the other end attaches to the wall or ceiling.

How it works

The fabric flap bridges the gap between the screen and the wall at approximately a 45-degree angle. When a ball hits near the edge of the screen, the guard deflects it back into the play area instead of allowing it to pass behind.

The wall-side velcro is provided with your order. Most installations attach it to the wall or ceiling using a staple gun for a secure hold.

Best for

  • Setups where the screen is mounted away from the wall with visible gaps
  • A lightweight, easy-to-install solution
  • Budgets where cost is a consideration

Edge Carpet

What it is

The Edge Carpet is a 1/2-inch thick carpet material designed for impact resistance. It attaches to the screen via velcro and sits flush against the screen surface.

How it works

Unlike the Edge Guard's angled flap design, the Edge Carpet extends straight out from the screen edge. Its thickness and density absorb impact energy, and the flush profile creates a cleaner visual appearance. Balls that hit the carpet experience less bounce compared to the fabric guard.

Best for

  • A more polished, professional-looking installation
  • Areas where reducing bounce-back from edge hits is important
  • Setups where durability is a priority

Coverage options

When adding edge protection, you choose how many sides to cover:

All 4 sides

Protection on the top, bottom, left, and right edges. Provides full coverage around the entire screen perimeter.

Top + sides only

Protection on the top, left, and right edges. The bottom edge is left uncovered — common when turf or a mat covers the floor gap, or when the bottom uses a pocket finish.

Pocket bottom note

If your bottom edge uses the 2.5" Pocket finishing option, edge protection cannot be applied to the bottom. Coverage is automatically limited to the top and sides.

Velcro finishing requirement

Edge protection attaches to the screen via velcro. This means the edges of your screen must be finished with the Vinyl with Grommets + Velcro option for edge protection to work.

If you select edge protection during configuration, the system will automatically ensure the appropriate edges have velcro finishing. If you're ordering edge protection, make sure to select the velcro finishing option on the edges where you want protection.

For more details on finishing types, see our guide to edge finishing options.

Installation

Screen side

The edge protection connects directly to the velcro strip on your screen. Simply align the protection material with the screen edge and press the velcro surfaces together.

Wall side (Edge Guard only)

The Edge Guard connects to the wall or ceiling via a separate velcro strip. We provide the opposite velcro for wall attachment with your order. The most common installation method is to staple the velcro strip to the wall or ceiling surface, positioning it so the guard fabric creates an angled barrier between the screen and the wall.

FAQ

Do I need edge protection?

It depends on your setup. If your screen does not fully cover the wall or frame opening, there will be gaps where balls can slip behind the screen. Edge protection closes those gaps. If your screen is mounted inside a fully enclosed frame with no gaps, you may not need it.

What is the difference between Edge Guard and Edge Carpet?

Edge Guard is a 9-inch wide polyester/nylon fabric flap that bridges the gap between the screen and wall at a 45-degree angle. Edge Carpet is a 1/2-inch thick carpet material that attaches flush to the screen for a cleaner, lower-bounce finish. Edge Carpet is heavier and more durable.

Can I add edge protection to just some edges?

Yes. You choose coverage when ordering: either all 4 sides, or top and sides only. If your bottom edge uses a pocket finish, protection is automatically limited to the top and sides.

How is the wall-side velcro attached?

We provide the opposite velcro strips for wall attachment. Most installations attach the velcro to the wall or ceiling using a staple gun. The velcro provides a strong hold while still allowing the protection to be removed if needed.

Does edge protection work with the pocket bottom option?

Yes, but only on the top and sides. The bottom pocket creates a fabric sleeve for tensioning, so edge protection cannot be applied there. When your bottom edge has a pocket, coverage is automatically set to top and sides only.

Can I add edge protection later?

Yes, as long as your screen was finished with the Vinyl with Grommets + Velcro option. Edge protection attaches via velcro, so the velcro must already be sewn onto your screen. If your screen only has Vinyl with Grommets (no velcro), you would need to order a new screen with velcro to add protection.
